Urban Fresh in collaboration with "The Randoms" rented out a movie theatre for an exclusive movie night in honor of Black History Month.
We will be showcasing Sankofa, ...
... a very important and controversial film about the naked truth of slavery, humanity, and freedom. Haile Gerima, the director of the film, invites us to travel back to a moment in our history that can be uncomfortable and deemed as irrelevant for some of us but in the very essence of Sankofa, we have to know where our ancestors came from in order to move forward.

A self-absorbed Black American fashion model on a photo shoot in Africa is spiritually transported back to a plantation in the West Indies where she experiences first-hand the physical and psychic horrors of chattel slavery, and eventually the redemptive power of community and rebellion as she becomes a member of a freedom-seeking Maroon colony
